How to design the best minimalist rooms - The idea of
minimalsmi is clear, yet we cant seem to do away with most of our
“bedroom essentials”. Minimalism has different for every individual and I
hope you can take away the best from the following:
- Swap good old vanity with chic floor mirrors
Floor
mirrors are in trend this year and are light on the pocket as well. You
can also watch tens of DIY floor mirror videos on youtube and get the
best option for yourself. Some floor mirrors also come with racks behind
them, so all your clutter is hidden behind and doesnt take any more
space than a plain old ladder.
- Low height beds and simple bedside tables.
Low
height beds are not a common sight; although these designs are pretty
popular in Japan. These beds are bound to give any room a modern,
minimal look, solely because their low height structure makes the room
look spacious than it is. Platform beds are now very popular and you can
pretty much buy these online or from a local store.
See how this bedroom has neutral colors all over? This trick especially helps when you don’t have a lot of space to work with.
- Leave the bedroom walls alone
This
might go against what every interior design magazine has been telling
you, but never clutter your walls with art decor and your favorite
paintings. Sure, there’s a chance that the room might look soulless and
dry but one carefully selected painting or art decor piece can easily fix that. Take a look at this google search result if you don’t believe me.

Western inspired modern:
A retro-interpretation of traditional:
and the occasional strange ones...:
There is a element here that makes western and eastern concept of the bedroom differ, this comes down to one question you have to ask yourself:
"With the bedroom space when you aren't sleeping, what will it be used for?"
Throw away obstructing furniture, or hide them away physically, keep cools to a natural and consistent colour tone that compliment lighting, soft but even coverage helps create an deceptive wide feeling of space.
Minimalism is about creating space, how much space you want to create, depends on what you want to use that space for.
In today's modern societies, the sad trend is that very many people aren't getting enough sleep. We spend more times awake, so what that space we create is to aid in how we use it in those non-sleeping instances. A bedroom, isn't just a place to sleep, but a private space for the owner to relax and do the things they enjoy.
Personally, i like to use my bedroom for watching films and reading when i'm not sleeping, therefore i like things that are mobile and can move around, beds that fold and double as a sofa, draws and desk that fold along the walls, very asian minimalism, i keep my books and other shelved items in other parts of my apartment, my own isolation space, a step out from the bustle of the busy and hectic outside.
I hope this helps in someway and in no means should my answer be the only one, because that'll be absobloodylutely boring. Boring is an enemy of all designers. ;)
